So totals today include 3 apples, 1 pear, handful of red grapes, 5 carrots, parsley, 1/2 lemon, 1 plum, hunk of fresh pineapple and 2 kiwis. All juiced! For dinner I had cheesy potatoes. I really need to get the juicing Bible book so I can kinda track the nutritional values. Plus working on getting my thyroid meds regulated and hoping it helps with my energy levels! But otherwise I feel great! Worried about maintaining while Rick is here, but gonna try.

I was running around all day and didn’t get as much juice as I usually do. But my total juicy fruits today were 2 green apples, 1 red apple, handful of strawberries, a pear, 7 carrots and a kiwi. On the road so I did a veggie bowl at the Flying Burrito with rice, beans, onions and peppers, salsa and guacamole. Did a hot turkey sandwich for dinner.

To meat or not to meat…..

So I have been concentrating on nutrition for about a month now, trying something new: fruits and vegetables! Borrowed a juicer from a friend, and I am trying to be healthier by focussing on on fruits and vegetables. Now, don’t get me wrong, I have nothing against meat – some of my best friends are, wait, that wasn’t gonna work. Well, I certainly won’t turn down a great steak dinner (call me!). But I am focussing on fruits and veggies, mostly juicing, and how I feel. So far, so good. And Rick got me a brand new Champion 2000 juicer that came a couple days ago, and I want to keep track of what I am doing and how I feel. So there may be numerous posts in a day, or I may skip a few, but I really want to keep track of my consumption. Sorta feels like Temple Builders – tracking my food – but I am serious about the healthy thing. God has blessed me with good health at this time and I want to do my part in trying to maintain that. And I certainly can’t hurt that by adding the produce. I am slightly concerned about protein, so this is really trial and error and we will see.

Today, after coffee and million grain (not really) wheat/berry bread with nutella, my first juice is: 1 pear, 2 plums, 1 gala apple = Yummm!

4 Carrots, a hunk of fresh pineapple and a few spinach leaves ~ in a frosty glass, thank you!

2 plums, a red apple and a pear! Will probably snack on some mixed honey-roasted nuts while waiting for CJ at a choir rehearsal and of course my 3rd large sonic ice water of the day! That keeps everything in good working order if you know what I mean!

Spinach, crumbled bleu cheese, walnuts and dried cranberries added some protein to end the day!

What’s wrong with perfect?

Thank God for sleepless nights! Yep, that’s when I pray. And so many, many times, when I roll around and look at the clock, I “ugh” and wonder how in the world I am going to get up and function in just a few hours. But God is good, and I wake up refreshed after spending hours with Him. I will admit, it is usually with my many requests for family and friends, but sometimes, I am just listening for His voice. Actively, consciously waiting and posturing myself to hear something. And sometimes I do.

I have had children for almost 28 years now. I know, I can’t possibly be that old, right? But a constant struggle for me has been “am I a good parent”? As with most, I wonder if I am helping or hindering my children on their way to adulthood? How do others perceive my children? I know – or think I know – their hearts, but will others? Why do their actions speak louder than my words? And we all know other children who seem to be perfect and without struggles. And last night, God brought one of these families to my remembrance.

When my girls were little, I was blessed to be able to take them to a sitter who kept kids in her home. She was a darling woman, with a heart of God and gold, and my kids loved Miss Valerie! And she had one girl she cared for that was perfect. She was about 7 or 8 years old. She never threw tantrums, she never pouted, she never hit another child. She never wandered off, she was never sassy to her mother, she never said an unkind word to anyone. Ever. She stayed right where she was, literally. She had, I think, cerebral palsy, and multiple physical and mental problems, and she was blind. He mom carried her into Valerie’s, laid her down, went to work, and came back each day and picked her up. We all spoke to her – she could hear, but who knows what she could understand – and would stroke her cheek, hoping to somehow convey that she was cared for. But that was it. She could not interact. She could not speak, move, play, or disobey. She just was, as it were, a “perfect” child. To this day, I don’t know how parents handle a situation like this.

After we moved to Arkansas in 2003, I heard that she passed away. Home with Jesus, I know, angels and all that. And never really thought about it again. And for some reason, The Lord has brought that precious girl to my mind the last few nights. And – voila: revelation! Now don’t write me off your list of Godly friends – this isn’t a scriptural revelation – just to my mothers heart. Thank You, Precious Lord Jesus, that I have to/get to discipline my children. Who, in their right mind, would think of that as a blessing? But as I struggle with who is thinking what of my kids, and how does that reflect on me, I am blessed that they are healthy, smart, energetic, emotional, imaginative, onery, stubborn, passionate, and, did I say healthy?

God is good, and gives us what we can handle when He can handle it.

Thank You, Heavenly Father, for knowing me better than I know myself. And for revealing blessings where I forget. And for my beautiful, and blessedly not perfect children, as I remain Your blessedly not perfect, but gracefully forgiven child. I love you.

Where to start?

What is a year? 365 days of random events interwoven with family and friends, relationships, commitments, occasions and activities that create life. And there have been some monumental changes in the fabric of my life since my last post. At the request of someone who loves me, I may try to recreate some of 2009, just to put things in context. It may go back and forth for a few until I get it up to date, but I will start. Soon. Really.

Plenty of Power, just not electricity!

Yep, or rather nope, no electricity yet. We actually stayed with my folks last night to make it easier for the girls to get ready for school. And sometime in the wee hours, their power went out – again! So I was up making lunches by candlelight ~ it is still dang dark at 6:30 am!

At home, I heated water in a pot in the fireplace to try to clean up a bit. Just like camping, with all the conveniences of, oh, well, not! We do have tons of wood for burning outside in the fire pit. I actually had devotions there this am and it was kinda nice in that camping, back-to-nature kind of way!

But we are blessed. No house damage, everyone healthy, and food on the table. Our prayers are with those not so lucky. And our friends who are grieving the loss of their tenth grade sons in a fire this weekend – tragic!

Will keep you up to date as we continue to be patrons of the Fayetteville Public Library: heat, computers, Arsagas, and all free!

Electricity? Who needs it!

So we are mid fourth day without electricity and it isn’t that bad. For those of you who don’t know why, we in Northwest Arkansas have experienced the worst ice storm in many years. Our power went out Monday night and cam back on for a few hours Tuesday morning, and now has been out since about 10am Tuesday. Almost all of Fayetteville was out for Tuesday and Wednesday, with pockets of power on Thursday. Today, Friday, we are still out. We can keep our cold food (milk and such) on the porch as the temp hasn”t been above 35, and is in the teens at night. Our fireplace is gas and we have tons of wood, so as long as we keep everything in the house closed up and we sleep in the living room, we stay semi-warm. Here at the library, which opened yesterday, it is warm, we have internet access, and can get coffee, hot chocolate and read. It’s a new adventure everyday! Yesterday, for instance, we got free hot showers at the local athletic club! It’s the little things!! Will keep you posted as we have access to the library.

Of surgery that is. The surgeon feels like he got what needed to be gotten. Mom was admitted to stay overnight, but is doing well. Her throat is still sore from being entubated, but she’s getting better. She has to do radiation, but we aren’t sure what that will entail just yet. Dad says that should be home by spring!! No, mom has to stay down through the weekend, and they have 4 new appointments for the end of the month, but Dad is going to try to change them. For now, we are just praising the Lord for a quick and easy surgery and a speedy recovery. Thanx for your prayers!!

Well, Mom and Dad are in Minnesota – again. And it is snowing up a storm there! Even Dad says the driving is treacherous! Mom started in today with the breast cancer surgeon who proceeded to order more tests immediately. Mom says she was treated like royalty, every one was soo nice! The doc says there will be surgery, but to what extent will be determined when they see her tomorrow morning. If they are not snowed completely in, that is! Will keep you posted as I know more…

I sincerely hope that everyone had a wonderful Christmas and are looking forward to a New Year of loving Jesus more. My resolution is to love more regardless of the cost ~ whole heartedly, passionately and honestly.

Cassie and I went to the OneThing conference in Kansas City and were inspired and pumped to bring back the passion! My focus has been off for a couple of months now, so I begin realignment with the GBF. (If you don’t know, ask me)

Mom and Dad were home for Christmas, tried and tested in every sense of the words! Once home, Mom received a surprising and totally unexpected diagnosis of Paget’s Disease, a rare form of breast cancer. We don’t know any details other that what we read online. They head back to the Mayo this weekend, with 8 appointments scheduled for January 12-13.

Kaitlyn is doing well, tired after back to back conferences where she is literally on her feet all day, being an assistant to a director.

Tori and McKayla are well, and, believe it or not, happy to be back at school!

Rick continues to care for his parents, continues at Disney, and continues to job search here in Arkansas. We are all praying for a break through soon. Although jobs are hard to come by, we have The Great God who has a plan, and hasn’t forgotten!
